Father,
We come before You this morning from a wet and gloomy dark morning here in Scotland with heavy hearts over the tragic attack in Sydney, where innocent lives were taken as Your chosen people gathered to celebrate Hanukkah. Lord,
You know the pain and sorrow of every family mourning their loved ones, every person injured and suffering. We ask for Your comfort to surround them like a blanket, the kind of comfort that only You can give, as You promised to be near to the brokenhearted.
Father, we pray for healing, for bodies wounded, for minds traumatised, for spirits crushed by this evil. Touch them with Your mighty hand, bring restoration, and let Your peace that passes understanding guard their hearts.
Lord, we lift up the Jewish people around the world, the apple of Your eye. Protect them from rising hatred and violence. You have not forgotten Your covenants with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; Your promises stand forever. Draw them closer to Yourself, open their eyes to the truth of the Messiah, and pour out Your Spirit upon them in these last days.
We stand against the dark spirit of antisemitism that drives such sick evil. Bind the enemy, Lord, stem this flood of wickedness through the prayers of Your people, please wake up your church to stand bold with Israel and against hatred.
Father, bring justice swiftly, give wisdom to authorities, and use even this tragedy to turn hearts toward You.
May many come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour through the witness of Your love in the midst of suffering.
We thank You that You are sovereign, that nothing escapes Your notice, and that one day all tears will be wiped away.
Until then, help us to pray without ceasing and to love as You love.
In the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, Amen.
